Parenting Literature for Dads
Dads and expectant fathers who have difficulties or want to improve their relationship with their children, or want to learn as much as possible how to become a good parent can learn a lot from the parenting literature. Literature on pregnancy and parenting is still predominantly written for women but there is also many very good books, magazines and articles which deal with questions and problems which face the majority of men when becoming fathers.
Parenting courses and classes have their advantages but many men are reluctant
attending one primarily because they do not like to speak about their private issues
in front of a group of strangers, while many consider private parenting lessons like
visiting a shrink. Great alternative as well as complement to parenting courses is
parenting literature. All the greatest experts in parenting and family relationships
have published their discoveries and results in books and/or articles, while one can
easily check the references of a certain expert or an author to evaluate his/her
claims. However, if learning exclusively from literature it is important not to
follow directions of the first read book or article neither to read only works of
one author. To gain full insight into certain issue is necessary to compare
different opinions and choosing the one which seems to be the most appropriate for a
specific situation. Besides that it is also important to be aware that there is no
universal key to successful parenting no matter how many book one reads and how well
one educates oneself.
