Men and Children Today
The importance of children to men today has not changed even if desire after children is often being associated with women. Men still like to play tough but the majority of them also hear tic-tacking of their biological clock although majority does not admit it. The number of couples which decide not to have children may be rising but the majority of men, like women, dreams of having children someday.
Many women today still complain they are raising their children alone and that their partners rather spend their free time in front of the television. Although that may be true in some cases raising of children today can not be compared with parenting in history. The participation of men in parenting greatly varies from family to family but generally speaking men today are much more active in raising of their children than they used to be in history.
One of the reason for more active role of men in parenting lays in the development
of society in which is not unusual if men changes diapers or stays at home with the
children while women are shopping with their friends. However, they still like to
say they have to babysit if a friend calls them to watch a game together. Since the
term babysitting is supposed to be used only when looking after someone else's
children not one's own it sounds more like an unpleasant obligation than being a
loving parent who enjoys spending time with his children. For that reason many
people object the term babysitting when it comes to looking after one's own
children.
